The Purpose of Relationship
Built on what? And for what?
Walking in Carlsbad Village one day, we came upon a school at the edge of town, an academy. In big, bold letters on the front of the main building were the words:
As we thought about it, it occurred to us that we would probably not enter into a business relationship without being clear about our purpose for doing so, and the same should probably be true regarding our personal relationships and family - if we want them to be extraordinary.
When we asked ourselves, "Around what would we design a purpose for our relationships and family?" we realized that it would be words similar to those. Because they are not just words, they are ways of being that we value. And we know that we value them because we are inspired, enlivened and emboldened by them.
